CS Honours. Data, Code,
Systems.
BScHons Computer Science student at the University of Pretoria. I build things with data and break things for fun — ML research, full-stack apps, and everything in between.
projects
Automated shift scheduling — a CP-SAT solver assigns employees to stations against availability and target hours, asking case-by-case whenever a hard staffing floor forces a deviation instead of silently overworking someone.
A control room for a living room built around a Windows HTPC — a live floor plan of the lights, a remote with a live screen mirror, and Jellyfin playback on the TV, from any browser.
Website and telehealth booking for a family medical practice. Patients pick a slot and pay by mobile money; the doctor confirms and calls them on WhatsApp. Bilingual, with patient details encrypted at rest.
Order and queue system for a multi-branch shoe-cleaning business: a first-in, first-out wash queue, collection or delivery, loyalty, staff roles and thermal receipts printed from a tablet.
Staff console for a hair and beauty salon, ported from Shoe Wash: walk-ins and bookings against a 124-service price list, a specialist per service, and payment in full before a visit can close.
B2B client portal on Azure — OAuth via Microsoft Entra External ID, live order status updates over SignalR, and six GoF design patterns in production.
Cross-platform app digitising South Africa's minibus taxi industry — multi-leg journey planning, fare splitting, and multilingual support.
Genetic Programming system for symbolic regression on UK residential electricity load data. Tournament selection, parsimony control, and tree evolution from scratch.
Honours research on detecting misinformation across text, image, and video. Scoping review of fusion strategies for heterogeneous modalities.
Student-run IT helpdesk at UP Groenkloof. Automation tooling, lab hourly check systems, PowerShell setup scripts, and Windows sysadmin workflows.
End-to-end data science pipelines in R and Python — PCA, Monte Carlo sampling, classification, clustering, random forests, and NLP topic modelling.
Self-hosted services, virtualisation, networking experiments, and infrastructure tinkering.
about
background
I'm Nevan — CS Honours student at the University of Pretoria, studying AI, NLP, memory systems, and digital forensics. I care about building software that solves real problems in real contexts.
Outside academia, I run a student helpdesk, work on side projects, and spend too much time on my homelab. Driven by data, fuelled by code.
